Types of Vapor Barriers available for installation by our crawlspace technicians.
10 Mil Vapor Barrier. This recycled polyethylene plastic sheeting is a general-purpose plastic film for use in a variety of construction and DIY projects. This extra heavy-duty 10 Mil plastic can be used under concrete slabs as a vapor barrier and on top of freshly poured slabs as a curing blanket. This polyethylene liner is commonly used to cover crawl spaces and as a temporary cover for equipment and supplies.
Our 10 Mil vapor barrier can handle light storage and foot traffic. It is black in color and is sealed to the foundation with sealant and seam tape. This option is the economic option for preventing crawlspace moisture related issues.
20 Mi SilverBack™ Vapor Barrier. This is the cream of the crop. The top of the multi-layered 20 Mil SilverBack™ is a glossy white. This clean white color helps to reflect light in the crawl space and give it a pleasing appearance. The top layer is made from 100 % virgin polyethylene material to give the absolute best performance and last a lifetime.
The middle of the 20 Mil SilverBack™ houses the polyester thread reinforcement. This reinforcement has one job and that is to eliminate tearing. The grade of polyester cord is the same that is used in automotive tires to keep the rubber stable at highway speeds. The reinforcement is permanently embedded in the vapor barrier with an additional layer of molten polyethylene. This ensures the 20 Mil SilverBack will never delaminate.
The back of this vapor barrier is silver in color, which is the trademark of the SilverBack™ brand. The back layer does not have pinholes or fillers and naturally resists dangerous mold growth. This vapor barrier can handle heavy storage and foot traffic. Due to its weight, fasteners must be used to pin the material to the sides of the crawlspace walls. Sealant and seam tape is also used in the installation process. This option is ultimate in protection and durability for your crawlspace.
